While enjoying snack, here are some things for girls to talk about:

Has anyone used the internet to do research for school? What did you learn?

Does anyone play games on the computer? What do you like to play?

Have you ever drawn a picture or card on the computer to give as a gift? What program did you use? What did it look like?

Has anyone used the computer to talk to friends or family? Did you send an email, use a chat program, or video chat?

Do you have a computer in your house? What does your family use it for?

Of all these things you and your family do on a computer, what do you think people did before computers were invented? What do you think life was like before computers?

Game (15 min)

Computer Pictionary

1. In small groups, have the girls open the paint or drawing program on their computer. Give them about 3 minutes to figure out how to use the controls and practice drawing.

2. Split the girls into two teams. For larger groups, play multiple games with two teams each.

3. Have girls take turns drawing a note card and drawing the item listed. As she is drawing, her team will guess what she is drawing. Have teams take turns until everyone has had a chance to draw.

Write items on the notecards for girls to draw. These can be any items depending on the interests andabilities of your girls, for example: basketball, flower, cat, house. You should have at least one note

card per girl.

Paint a picture.

Use a computer art program to make a picture of your favorite person or place. Use bright colors, shapes, and fun drawing tools. Then share it with your family or print it out and bring it to the next meeting.

Create a cool card.

Create a thank-you card with pictures on the front and a nice message inside. Give it to someone who's helped you.

Build a bookmark.

First, make an outline of the size you want

(one inch wide and six inches long is a good place to start).

Decorate it using an art program, then print it. Cover the bookmark in thick, clear tape to make it rip-proof and use it in your favorite book.

Online art walk.

If you like art and visiting museums, then you've got a whole world to explore online. Search for a famous art museum and then take their online tour. Once you know your way around, host an online tour for a friend or family member.

All about animals. 

Pick an animal you're interested in but don't know a lot about and use search engines to study it. Take notes as you read to create a Top 5 list of favorite facts to share.

Girl Scout Search

1. Tell the girls you will be making fact/picture pages about Girl Scouts. Have each group choose a Girl

Scout topic to look up online. Some possible options are:

Girl Scout games

Girl Scout songs

Girl Scout traditions

Juliette Gordon Low

Historical uniforms

Girl Scouts of Minnesota and Wisconsin River Valleys

Current badges and awards

Historical badges and awards

2. In their groups, have the girls find information about their topic online. Each girl will then choose one

“item” in this category to make a fact page about, using the craft supplies available.

3. Optional: Girls can also print pictures and facts, if printers are available.

4. Combine the sheets into a collage or a “scrapbook”.

Road trip.

Tell the girls to:

Visit a mapping site on the Web. Find where you live on the map and zoom in to see how close you can get.

Try the same thing with your school, a friend's house, and somewhere far away, like a relative's house in another state.

World adventure.

Pick another country you want to visit one day. Find information to make a short travel guide. Include facts on language, money, and major holidays.

Search online for "e-cards" and you'll find

dozens of sites that let you send free greeting cards designed

for birthdays, holidays, or to just say hello. Send an e-card to three friends or relatives and let them know why they are important to you.

You've got mail!

Tell the girls: 

Send thank-you notes by e-mail when a friend or family member

gives you a gift or does something nice.

Use either your own e-mail address or an adult's (with their permission).

FoR MORE FUN: Attach a picture ofyourself in your Brownie vest or sash.

Dear President . ..

Tell the girls: 

Did you know you can send the president a message online? Search for the White House page on the Web, then write the president a message about what's important to you. (You could do this for a different elected official, too.)

Game on!

Visit at least three kid friendly gaming sites and play the

most popular games. Talk about your favorites with your family or friends.

How would you make the games more fun or more challenging?

Dance on!

Create a five-song playlist that you can dance to and have a dance party with your family or friends.

Print on!

Use a computer to createyour own stationery with your name on top and patterns around the edges.

Print a small stack and use it to send thank-you notes to cookie

customers, invitations, or notes just because!
